Inflatable Globe

My social studies block is an extremely fun class. I have learned so much in there and cannot wait to use some of the strategies my teacher has taught us in my own classroom one day. This past week Dr. Coleman told us about the use of an inflatable globe and all the ways we can use it in the classroom.  One of the ways she told us we could use it was to toss the ball from student to student and they could name the county or city where their fingers catch the ball.  She gave us a handout with lots of different strategies that would come in handy for our classroom and I really hope I am able to integrate it in my classroom this semester during field experience.

  1. Rachel,
I enjoyed reading about your take aways from this strategy. I think this is a great way to incorporate geography to our students and make it fun and playful. I think our students will enjoy a teacher that plays games and allows them to have fun during class.

  2. Rachel,
I also thought this was a great strategy that I would also use in my classroom. I would use this as a game to get the students familiar with the globe. I think this would be a great way to get the children interested in geography. When a teacher uses games and hands on activities, the kids always want to "play".

  3. I absolutely love this activity! It is so cool to have kids learn without realizing they are doing it. They think it is fun just to pass a "ball" around and see where it will land next! This would be a great "brain break" like Dr. Coleman mentioned before!
